Who are we?

HelloPrenup is the first online platform to allow couples to seamlessly create a prenuptial agreement online. We use online resources for almost everything in our lives, from filing our taxes and paying everyday bills, to shopping. It only makes sense that we should be able to create a sensitive, personal agreement such as a prenup online. The HelloPrenup platform was developed by legal professionals working in the family law field, implementing the input of seasoned divorce lawyers, with decades of experience in drafting and defending prenups.

HelloPrenup was created after one of it’s founders, a divorce attorney, witnessed firsthand the tremendous cost associated with hiring lawyers, drafting and negotiating all aspects of the prenup and getting attorneys on board and working efficiently. She realized that, because most couples are discussing and drafting prenups while simultaneously planning the details of their big day, dream honeymoon, and life together, the process for creating a prenup had to be less stressful, more efficient, and a lot more cost effective. Together with her years of legal training and experience, and the direction of seasoned divorce attorneys, HelloPrenup was born!

Increase in Prenuptial Agreements

In the last 20 years

Prenups have increased by 500% over the past 20 years – that is a lot! In fact, prenuptial agreements have become more common among millennials than ever before. According to the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), 51% of lawyers say they have seen a significant increase in the number of millennial couples requesting a prenuptial agreement. One reason for this spike may be that couples generally marry later in life than previous generations. And by the time they do marry, they own more property, may having a higher earning capacity, and in most cases, have more student debt than ever before. Additionally, more women are in the workforce than ever before, with higher salaries and greater earning potential than other generations. It only makes sense that millennial women should have a great interest in obtaining a prenup prior to marriage to protect their assets.

A Prenuptial Agreement is an Emotional Document.

We have always said that a prenuptial Agreement is just as much an emotional document as it is a legal one. After all, you are engaged to marry the love of your life, your life partner, your person. A prenuptial agreement can feel like a very formal instrument for such a personal relationship, and the shock that comes from having this wildly romantic moment of engagement, to discussing the idea of a very formal financial arrangement, to sitting down and negotiating through lawyers about what to do with your money if you divorce can feel like a grave juxtaposition. That’s where HelloPrenup comes in.

HelloPrenup was created to allow couples to become more involved in the process of creating their prenuptial agreement, while still having the option to hire an attorney to advise and/or represent them. By allowing couples to answer questions that pertain to their wants and needs for this highly personal agreement, HelloPrenup allows couples to become more fully involved in the process of taking control of their own financial futures. Created by women, with women in mind.

It’s no secret that women’s finances are more negatively impacted by divorce than that of their husband’s. Men earn more than women in every country on earth, and in the year 2020, the gap between the median salaries of working men and women in the United States was about 80 cents earned on the dollar for every dollar earned by a man. Once women have children, that number drops to 71 cents for every dollar a man makes. This is often referred to as the “motherhood penalty,” despite the fact that women make up 57% of undergraduate degrees, and 59% of master’s degrees. Over a woman’s lifetime, these losses of income add up to a substantial wealth gap. So, how can a prenup help with this? A prenup can allow couples to contract to terms that are fair for them. State divorce law does not always feel fair to divorcing couples, and it often does not feel fair to women who have suffered substantial loss of wealth over the course of their marriage.
